The First Light Snow

The First Light Snow Xiang Yang

The first light snow comes after red leaves fall
It covers the hills in Iowa at the beginning of winter
Just like the falling leaves, the snow flies by
In front of the window of my temporary house
It comes to rest
I sigh in the wind, I can’t
Even decide where to live
The ashy sky watches
My homeland on the other side of the ocean

Sometimes longing is like light snow, Sometimes
It’s more like falling leaves
It doesn’t melt, but it just slowly wither
The light snow in this foreign land
Seems like a dream of last night
In the dream, my late father
Came to stand with me in front of the window
Pointing at the falling snowflake, he
Said The snow is cold, let’s go back
Back to our land where the ground is covered by fallen leaves
